As Louisville continues to reclaim its waterfront, Waterfront Park continues to grow. On Louisville’s lively downtown riverfront, visitors will find the Belle of Louisville, Joe’s Crab Shack, Tumbleweed Southwest Grill, playgrounds, an amphitheater, walking paths and open lawn areas complete with water displays and beautiful views.
The downtown area is also teeming with excitement with Fourth Street Live! Features of this entertainment complex include something for everyone — restaurants such as Hard Rock Café, TGI Friday’s, Sully’s Restaurant & Saloon, Maker’s Mark Bourbon House and Red Star Tavern; Lucky Strike and Felt, an up-scale bowling alley and billiards hall; and retailers such as Borders Books and Music, the Fashion Shop and The Louisville Store. Fourth Street Live! is conveniently located on Fourth Street between Liberty Street and Muhammad Ali Blvd, within walking distance of all major downtown hotels.
Other downtown family attractions include the Muhammad Ali Center, the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Louisville Science Center and IMAX, Glassworks and the new Frazier International History Museum.
Caesars’ fabulous gaming boat is open almost around the clock just minutes from downtown. And, now there’s a luxurious hotel and first-class restaurant adjacent to the casino.
A visit to the Kentucky Derby Museum can include a guided walking tour of the newly renovated Churchill Downs. The museum features an award-winning, High Definition Kentucky Derby film entitled "The Greatest Race." Displayed on a 360-degree screen, "The Greatest Race" places the viewer in the center of Derby Day action.
When it’s time for a bite to eat, visitors will find 2,500 restaurants with something to satisfy every taste and budget. And shopping is bountiful. From suburban shopping malls to the eclectic Bardstown Road corridor, antique shops and art galleries, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. On hand at the GIE+EXPO site is the popular General Store, featuring Kentucky crafts.
